5 Ways to Make your Home Monsoon Ready

With the monsoons setting in, you are guaranteed pleasant weather that will make you want to curl up in with a blanket, hot cup of coffee and a good book. The monsoons however also make your living space look dull and dreary, given the lack of sunlight during this period. With these home decor ideas, you will be able to have your home looking cozy and bright even on the dullest of days, and monsoon ready.

1. Keep the rain out

While most of us can agree that rain is pleasant, we wouldn’t want the inevitable waterdrops and mud inside our homes. Place a quirky welcome mat to keep those muddy footprints away. Avoid water dripping into your living room or beyond by placing a chic basket or a vase by the door to store umbrellas in. You can even turn it into a decor piece of its own by adding a few colourful umbrellas, which will also serve to brighten up your entryway.

2. Create a cozy corner

Pick out a corner that still receives some natural light. A space by a window is a good idea, and turn it into a reading nook, or if you’re working from home, then an alternative to your usual home office. Brighten up the space with vibrant pillows, succulents, and your favourite knick-knacks. Get rid of any heavy drapery, and replace it with sheer and brightly coloured curtains.

3. The right lighting

Considering that one of the major problems during the monsoon is the lack of light, make sure you have proper lighting, especially in those dark corners. This can change the whole mood of a room. You can use a standing floor lamp that can easily be moved as required, table lamps, or even hang up a string of fairy lights on the wall or windows to add a pleasant touch to the room.

4. Appeal to all senses

Apart from mood lighting, you can also make use of scented candles to drive away the musty smell that is inevitable during the monsoon season, and to add little pools of light. Windchimes near the window can add to the aesthetics of your living space, and a textured rug or carpet will not only be pleasing to the eyes, but also create a sense of coziness.

5. Reorganize your furniture

You can also use the rain as a reason to reorganize and redecorate your living spaces. You can opt for a minimalistic, clutter-free look, and store away any excess smaller bits of furniture. It is also a good idea to space out furniture to avoid it catching mould.
Additionally, if you have wooden furniture and antiques, make sure to seal them before the rains start to avoid any damage due to the wood inflating.

There are other ways in which you can also make changes to your home, such as changing upholstery, painting your walls a new colour, and so on, these are a few easy ways to try out that can change the whole mood of your living spaces during the monsoon.
