3 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT MIRRORS

Gone are the days when mirrors were used only for the purpose of looking at your reflection. Gone are the days when we thought that that was the only purpose of installing a mirror. Over the years, the field of interior design has evolved in such a way that pioneer designers have been able to unearth more than one functional benefit of installing mirrors in the house and integrating them into the design of the house for elevated aesthetics and functionality.

By the end of this blog, you will be able to make key decisions that involve the use of mirrors as a functional as well as an aesthetic element in the design of your homes.

1.Space

We bet you didn’t know that your mirror glasses have the potential to make the space in your home look bigger than it is.  What a mirror glass simplistically does is make images and light bounce off from different angles creating an illusion of space in the interiors. Mirrors are known to distribute space and light in such a way that it contributes to the depth and energy of the space making them look bigger and more importantly, spacious than they actually are.

Adding mirrors at the end of the hallway can create an illusion of depth and give you a feeling of a greater visual length.

2. Drama & Aesthetics

It is time to retire those traditional, rectangular mirror glasses that are classic but as old as time. Experiment with different shapes of mirrors, different sizes, and even more than one mirror if required. Make mirrors an integral part of your home decor while ensuring that the style of your mirror, its placement, etc reflect your unique personality because there is no right or wrong when it comes to using mirrors the way you want to.

Mirror and Drama go hand in hand. An extensive frame, with a distinct shape and color, can add so much drama to your space. Strategically placing your mirrors in such a way that it exaggerates the effect of your focal furniture or decor is truly a billion-dollar move. A well-placed mirror can even substitute a decorative art piece in your living space.

You can break out of regular shapes and go for eccentric mirrors in unusual shapes and colors that reflect your persona. Utilize them in elevating the aesthetic appeal of your living spaces along with retaining their functionality.

3. Light

Mirrors can be angled to reflect both natural and artificial light for a brighter space during the day. If your room lacks natural light and there is only one window that brings in natural light, then you can angle your mirror directly across from it to thoroughly reflect the sunlight.

Bring the outside world into your homes by placing a mirror near one of your windows to reflect the world outside. This is aesthetic, unique, and especially effective. Utilize mirrors to reflect the natural light and the artificial light in the house to make your space look brighter, airier, and more vibrant.

You can never go wrong with mirrors in your home and it guarantees one thing, that you’ll never be bored with how your living space looks and feels. And even if you do, move your mirrors around, and add a couple of more mirrors to re-energize your space.
