6 types of Doors for your interiors

Doors are more than just partitions between rooms, or used to close off rooms. Indoor doors can be an integral part of the overall interior design, and based on the type of rooms in a house, you can choose the type of door that fits the best. If you have a small room, you can have sliding doors that go into the wall, or classic wooden panelled doors if the design of your home is traditional. It also helps to have similar interior doors throughout your home, so that the overall design comes together. Read on, to find out more about the types of interior doors there are.

1. Bifold Doors

Folding doors or bifold doors are doors that open by folding back in sections or “panels” and they are held by hinges. They are also known as concertina doors. They can be made from a variety of materials such as wood, aluminium or PVC and are usually glazed. Because they don’t swing open, they take up less space and can be used in tight spaces such as utility rooms and closets.

2. Double Doors

As the name suggests, these are two doors hung side by side, that meet in the middle of the frame. They lend the home an aesthetic and classy look. Apart from this, they can also improve the functionality of your home, by creating ample space and making your home feel inviting. They also allow the easy movement of furniture and other large objects. If combined with glass panes, double doors can also let in a good amount of natural light.

3. Flush Doors

While many believe that the simple construction of the flush door makes them less attractive, however nothing could be further from the truth. While it does limit the amount of customisation that can be done, these doors which can consist of wood or a laminate are great in homes with a contemporary decor, where their sleek design fits right in.

4. French Doors

Usually a pair of doors with glass panes, these elegant doors are perfectly suited for any room that needs a lot of light, and minimal privacy. They are great for adding a touch of drama to an otherwise plain room, and are known for their aesthetic features. They are often used to create easy access to a patio or balcony.

5. Pocket Doors

A sliding door which disappears into a compartment of the adjacent wall when opened, pocket doors can free up a lot of space, when compared to a hinged door. These are great for small spaces such as bathrooms, utility rooms and closets. Combined with frosted glass for a bathroom, they can also provide some natural light. Glass pocket doors in spaces such as the dining room allow an elegant and refined look to the house.

6. Louvered Doors

These doors allow a continuous flow of air, while still giving the room privacy. While not recommended as the main door for a bedroom as it also allows the flow of sound, these unique doors make a great cover for a closet, or as a partition between a living room and a dining room.

With a number of choices when it comes to interior doors, it is quite easy to find one that suits the design you have envisioned for your home.
