TYPES OF LIGHTING YOU CAN GET FOR YOUR LIVING SPACES

Light is an essential component when it comes to designing a space. The amount of light that flows into a space determines the way the space would look and feel for instance, lowly lit space might feel unwelcoming. Picking out lighting for your spaces might sound daunting, given the variety of options available out there, but this blog will walk you through the features of each type of lighting.

1.General Lighting

General lighting needs no introduction. This type of lighting is incorporated into every room in the house to evenly brighten up the entire space. It is the basic foundation for a lighting scheme in a room. It is controlled by a dimmer or switch. A tubelight or similar LED bulb takes care of the job of illuminating the entire room.

A softer version of general lighting is ambient light. It also illuminates the entire area. The key difference is its lighting direction. It is connected to a dimmer switch to control the lighting for special occasions.

2.Accent Lighting

Accent lighting does the job of highlighting a certain section, artwork or architectural aspect like a fireplace in the house. It can be used to create a dramatic effect in the entrance or around a painting etc. Backlight accents can be used inside cloves, under cabinets, beneath furniture, behind TV or screens or along the staircase.

Recessed lighting options provide a way to illuminate bookshelves, staircases etc. Track lights also prove to be excellent for accenting.

3. Mood Lighting

Creates a temporary effect that makes the space look more inviting. It quite literally enhances one’s mood and helps release stress. It also reduces the amount of energy consumed, cutting down electricity bills. Mood lighting sources are often placed near the eye level which is also why these sources need to be covered with shade so as to avoid glaring light. One can use shades or rough lines as shades. One can use lamps, scones, pendant lights, rope or twinkle lights to set a mood for the living rooms.

4. Task Lighting

As the name suggests, task lighting is designed to enhance any practical tasks such as reading, cooking or even dressing up. These lights typically have strong wattage. The key is to pair task lighting with subtle ambient lighting to prevent your eyes from straining. Mirror lighting, cabinet spotlights, pendant lights under kitchen, wall scones and balanced arm lamps are great examples of task lighting

Decisions pertaining to lighting are key to how your space turns out to look. Not just the living room, the different types of lighting are capable of changing things around in your bedroom spaces as well ensuring that you are guaranteed an experience. Interestingly, you can layer your lighting just like how you layer your upholstery, colours and textures. Layering can go a long way in defining certain aspects of your spaces and giving it a personality of its own.
