6 COMMON PAINTING MISTAKES THAT CAN SPOIL THE AESTHETICS OF YOUR HOME

When boredom strikes, we often take up pet projects that will keep us occupied. One such common pet project is painting your spaces to feel more like you. However, it often happens that you might set out on this task with vigour but regret this decision after you’re done. To avert such a crisis, we have listed down some common painting errors that can spoil the look of your home.

1.Painting before buying the Fabrics

The colours of your upholstery, carpets, curtains and other furnishings can help you decide the colours for your home. If the colours of the fabrics and the paint aren’t in harmony, it can spoil the aesthetics of your living space. It’s essential to buy the fabrics before you decide to paint the house. Once you pick out the fabrics you can pick the palette, patterns etc that you would need for the walls.

2. Not using Painter’s Tape

A painter’s tape is an essential tool that can help you paint every part of your wall with ease. The tricky areas of the wall like corners can be painted over professionally, without any hassle. Important thing to remember when using a painter’s tape is that you need to remove it before the paint dries out.

3.Painting over old paint

This is one of the most important points that a lot of people fail to take note of. Scraping off the old paint and painting over a clean wall is what is recommended. The wall is scraped off using a wire brush or a paint scraper and then cleaned off using a wet cloth. This simple process can help you prepare the wall to be painted on.

4. Painting without a primer

Priming the wall is an essential process you cannot miss. Whether it is a new wall or a wall that has been painted on, primer is absolutely necessary. What a primer does is, it makes sure that the wall is ready for an even and easy application of paint. Oftentimes we find ourselves not liking the colour of the paint based on how it looks after the wall has been painted. This could be because of the absence of a primer. The primer ensures that the paint on the walls evoke the same feeling it did when you picked it.

5. Colours that disturb the natural light

If your room receives natural light, then certain colours can help reflect them making the space look brighter as a consequence. But, there are certain colours that absorb light instead of reflecting them. This could be detrimental to the aesthetics of your home. It’s always advisable to consult professionals before picking out a colour for your walls.

6. Not using enough paint

The task of painting your own walls might be a daunting task. You might feel under pressure to do a good job. In such a situation you might end up using very little paint. This might make your walls look like an unfinished project. With the first coat you might be able to cover all the surface but that isn’t the only goal here. Make sure your wall has at least a minimum of two coats of paint.

These few tips will help you err on the side of caution. Mistakes might be inevitable if you aren’t aware but with these tips you’ll be able to err on the side of caution.
